About Us

Our History

Lomwe is a well established nongovernmental secondary school that was established in 1974 under The Tanzania Parents Association. The school was established as an ordinary secondary school with agricultural bias. It is a co education institution enrolling Day and Boarding scholars. Its recruitment is countrywide meaning that students come from all over the country. Sometimes, a few of these students come from the neighboring countries especially Kenya and Uganda.

The school is in Usangi Division, Mwanga District in Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania – East Africa. It is situated at 23 kilometers southeast of Mwanga town on the North Pare mountain ranges. Important tourist attractions like the Kindoroko natural forest are within proximity and in fact Lomwe is the centre and coordinator of North Pare cultural tourism.

Lomwe happened to have a sisterhood with one school in Norway namely Trondheim Katedralscolen. This link was enhanced by a joint initiative of these two schools and the Norwegian donor agency – NORAD that used to support this school up to mid-1990. The link together with NORAD support helped to build up basic superstructures that are a necessity for a modern educational institution.

Advanced Level Institution

Lomwe was promoted into an advanced level institution in 2001 offering History, Kiswahili, Geography, English Language with General Studies subjects grouped into History Geography and Kiswahili (HGK), History Geography and English Language (HGL) and History, Kiswahili and English Language (HKL) Arts combinations. In 2004 more subjects like Economics, Advanced Mathematics and Basic Applied Mathematics were introduced which enabled the school to launch new Advanced Level Combinations of History ,Geography and Economics, (HGE) and Economics , Geography and Mathematics (EGM).
